Frank Clune, Australian writer,
literary phenomenon of the mid-20th Century. MAN, June, 1949.
"If there is one thing more impressive than Frank's
popularity, it is the unflagging energy with which he has
made the world his literary parish on one hand, while on
the other hand he is never stuck for fresh and vivid
stories of the Australian past and present."
The above comes from a review of LAND OF MY BIRTH
which unlike many of his other books contained eighteen
short stories or articles, several of which first
appeared in MAN. These included
'The Sacred Nugget', 'The Hanging of Hagen', 'Pearl-diver
down a Gold Mine' and 'Sky Diamonds'.
MAN again: "A book of undoubted
value and unflagging interest, LAND OF MY BIRTH is a
pot-porri of great entertainment value, and one which,
while it will delight every Clune reader and win the
writer new friends, gives his little coterie of hostile
critics less than ever to grumble about."

COMMENTS
June, 2010
I have a signed copy of this book and publication date is
1939, Frank Clune has signed the book 1-9-39 and appears
to have given the book to a Major Jack Scott [who appears
to have been a political figure of the time and bound up
in the Brisbane Line .......Scott then appears to have
given the book to 'old and best loved friend' A.C.Dawson.
// not sure who Dawson was, but Scott was much involved
in areas of Australian Japanese security interests as
well as organising a political/military movement against
Jack Lang [and others]. Clune writes that he followed
Scott's path from Yokohama to Shanghai.
